Not to mention Super Mario Crossover, which everybody way overrated because it had retro references. The creator didn't even design any levels, the whole thing is like a traced over Mona Lisa.

yes, but at least he changed gameplay a bit,and it was interesting to play original mario levels with different characters, so SMC is not so bad.

most game makers lack originality.

Every platformer ever is a Jumper clone.

ha.

the same problem is a trend in flash movies, look at egoraptor at the beginning when he started his "Awesome" series he used video game characters and simply made a summary of the story and bam he is highly acclaimed. Sure he is a fantastic animator but still.....

I think you are mistaken. You know that there are different game genres, for example Homerun in Berzerk Land and Toss the turtle have one genre, BUT every game is unique. Following your logic, Regularjoe is right: every platformer ever is a Jumper clone.

Game is unique if it has something original, something that everyone will remember. For example Toss the turtle has its own awesome graphic and original shop purchases (like guns and jetpacks) but Homerun In Berzerk Land's only original thing is the protagonist. That's all. Clone is the game that has the same appearance and structure that original game, but tribute is the same gameplay, the same target, but unique way to reach this target. In other words, Tribute is when is important "how" , not "what". Sorry for my english, i know it sucks.
